6683993793_6fd9c9ca58_zAndrea is a volunteer and fundraiser for the Open Arms Infant Home in Malawi. The aim of the home is to provide love, shelter, food, and medical care for some of Malawi’s abandoned and orphaned babies. Andrea’s been out to Malawi on many occasions to help at the home and she’ll talk about why it exists and the vital work it does.

 

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 9TH

Stephen Turnbull is one of the world’s leading authorities on Japanese history and culture and an author of 74 books. He has long been interested in the art of the Japanese garden and his extensive travels in Japan have allowed him access to many gardens not normally open to the public. His talk will include photographs of these secret gardens amid snow and cherry blossom.

THURSDAY MARCH 9TH

Yorkshire Air Ambulance was founded in 2000. Its two ambulances serve a population of approximately 5 million people across 4 million acres and it needs to raise £12,000 per day to keep the ambulances flying.

THURSDAY APRIL 13TH

Neil Hanson is the best-selling author of ‘Pigs Might Fly’ his hilarious account of running the highest pub in England at Tan Hill, with little or no experience but lots of enthusiasm. He’s been called the James Herriot of pubs.

THURSDAY MAY 11TH

Charlotte Leeming is a well-known face on BBC Look North and one of its main presenters. She’ll talk about her life in broadcasting.

THURSDAY JUNE 8TH

Jo Banks’ love of gardening persuaded her to switch careers from nursing to gardening and she qualified at RHS Harlow Car. After time away she returned to Harrogate and set up her own garden and flower school where she specialises in using locally grown, seasonal, and scented flowers in her workshops and flower styling business.

THURSDAY JULY 13TH

Caroline Brown is passionate about all things vintage and established the Saltaire Home and Vintage Fair in 2007 which specialises in clothes, jewellery, furniture and homewares from the 1920’s to the 1980’s.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH

Roger Davey is President of Ilkley Playhouse and he and his wife, Barbara, have been involved with this flourishing theatre for many years.

 

THURSDAY OCTOBER 12THjill-turton

Jill Turton is a former TV producer who is now a well-known food writer specialising in Yorkshire restaurants, wine bars, cafes, and places to stay. She’s a respected author and journalist and a regular restaurant critic for the Yorkshire Post.
